Gulf Weekly Write to the editor

HELLO and Happy New Year to all members of The Bahrain Writers’ Circle.

This is a reminder that there is no meeting this month as a number of folk are probably still away. So, our next meeting – and the first for 2013 will be on February 10 at 7.30pm at Cafe Ceramique – as always, the second Sunday of the month.

More details will be posted here and in our general email. We will be accepting new and renewing members’ applications. To download an application form and get details of membership please visit our website https://bahrainwriterscircle.com/join-us/ print out the form and bring it with you to our next meeting.

We look forward to your participation and support in 2013; to continue all the wonderful work that Robin Barratt has put in place for us. The BIG excitement for the first part of the year is our contest. Check details on Facebook as well as our BWC site.

I READ the story about science whizz-kid Ana Salman Sahwan in a recent issue of GulfWeekly who apparently researched, designed and built a solar-powered oven for which he got a certificate.

I read about a similar story years ago and ‘googled’ it.

I am all for encouraging kids to come up with ideas but to claim they are solely his design and plan is simply wrong.

Jameela Mohanna,
By email.

*Editor’s note: The schoolboy won the accolade and coverage in this newspaper not only for the oven’s design but for the fact that he used his own initiative to contact local companies to assist, develop and improve the concept.

No-one claims to have invented the wheel but they’ve changed a lot since those used on ass-pulling carts, as my recent front tyre blow-out in a BMW proved, and its developers have won accolades too.

LET me extend our heartiest greetings and wishes for New Year and a prosperous future ahead. We at the Bahrain Cricket Association are highly grateful for your continuous support and guidance.

We have recently restructured ourselves and have formed a new board with young Bahraini members.

We have moved forward to merge the Bahrain Cricket Association and Bahrain Cricket League into one approved entity of Cricket Bahrain, under the patronage of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and GOYS.

We will try to improve step-by-step and hope to meet the expectations and gain the support of all well-wishers and cricket lovers. It’s the beginning of a new dream.
Saleem Elias

President,
Bahrain Cricket Association.
