Gulf Weekly Write to the editor

With reference to the Whisperer’s report concerning St Christopher’s School’s former cat, Tom.

Tom seems to have settled into his new home quite quickly. He spent much of his time initially walking around checking out every nook-and-cranny of our house.

His favourite spots are either our most expensive couch in the living room or laying in the sun each morning on our children Rakan and Jood’s rocking chair!

He is a very chatty cat, especially at night. Thankfully our house has lots of big windows that face our garden, and day or night he can often be found gazing through them. The boys are ecstatic about their new big brother!

Zein Jallad, Bahrain.

Editor’s note: The Jallad family gave sanctuary to Tom because he was being battered and bruised by nasty strays in the area.

We are currently looking for sponsors and raffle prize donations for a charity cricket tournament in Bahrain.

The tournament, scheduled to take place on February 22, at the Bahrain Rugby Club, promises to be a unique family event to help our less fortunate neighbours both here and abroad.

The event will raise money and awareness to support the international humanitarian disaster relief organisation Shelter Box and the Rotary Club of Adliya’s own charitable efforts with needy families and orphans in Bahrain.

The Rotary Club of Adliya was started almost 20 years ago and, in addition to educational activities such as the Bahrain Model United Nations, it also has helped Think Pink Bahrain and the Bahrain Orphanage raise money for much needed equipment.

If you could support us we would really appreciate it. Email kkingcoach@gmail.com for more information.

Kay King,
Rotary Club of Adliya.

Think Pink Bahrain is writing to thank you all for the unwavering support that you showed the charity during its 2012 breast cancer awareness campaign.

With your support more than BD36,000 was raised and will be directed toward the Education Fund, which is an integral part of the Charity’s mission and vision.

The donations will support Bahrain healthcare professionals in achieving further professional development, through sponsorship of internationally recognised qualifications, which will in turn support the community of Bahrain and those being treated for breast cancer within the kingdom.

The funds will be divided into the following programmes:
*Further purchase of pink plexus gloves that support breast self examination lectures.
*First year’s payment for the MSc student to study at RCSI Bahrain (the candidate from BDF has been chosen and will be the charities fourth nurse to be sponsored).  All candidates major in breast cancer for their thesis.
*Lymphoedema Course in Germany – two candidates have been chosen from the KHUH and will take the total to eight healthcare professional to receive this internationally-recognised qualification.
*Sponsorship of flights for doctors to present their breast cancer research at international conferences, and publish their findings.
*Support AMH for their free breast screening programme, which commenced in October 2012.
*Breast cancer journal and book sponsorship to a local university for future nurses and doctors to be aware of latest evidence-based guidelines and interventions for breast cancer.
*Printing of BSE cards in English and Arabic
*Development of a breast cancer support book for newly-diagnosed breast cancer patients in Bahrain (this is currently being worked on in collaboration with BCNA).

Again, Think Pink applauds you all for taking the initiative to raise awareness for this health issue that affects many woman in the kingdom. We appreciate you supporting Think Pink Bahrain and in turn the local community, via our Education Fund.
