Pupils and teachers from a special needs centre in the kingdom painted their love for Bahrain in a fun-filled event showcasing art, tradition and culture.

Al Rahma Centre, a non-profit youth-oriented association, staged its fourth annual art exhibition at its premises in Riffa with performances from pupils with special needs, supported by teachers and volunteers.

Special needs participants aged 15 to 35 were encouraged and assisted by professional artists and spent a month painting a mighty 2mx1m work-of-art under the title of ‘Murals for Love of Bahrain’.

The work was showcased across the centre alongside performances from pupils with traditional dances and a routine choreographed by volunteers to a thrilled audience of family, friends and supporters.

Al Rahma’s administrative supervisor and organiser, Fatima Mohammed, said: “The art is mainly to give the young mentally disabled members the opportunity to express their love, loyalty and belonging to Bahrain.

“It is a presentation of talent and artistic capabilities. A few professional artists as well as people from schools and universities also participated to show their support, which we really appreciated here at the centre. More than 85 people painted murals that are now in the process of being hung on the outer walls of the centre so people can see it when they are driving by.

“It’s something we can be proud of and it decorates the walls beautifully.”

The youngsters who regularly attend the centre spent weeks rehearsing their performances. Abdulrahman Saami took to the stage to read aloud a heart-warming poem entitled Bahraini Inty (You are my Bahrain) and was followed by a series of traditional dance performances calling for peace and prosperity.
