The pairing of Martyn Wright and Madden Broadbent captured the Pearl Trophy pairs matchplay trophy at the Royal Golf Club with a 3&2 victory over Barry Hobday and Andy Love.
The popular series, which saw over 30 pairs enter at the start in September, came down to the 16th hole of the final game contested between the two pairings.
Hobday and Love held the advantage at the halfway stage of the fiercely fought battle, being two up after nine holes. However, a fightback on the back nine from Broadbent and Wright gave them the win, sealed on the 16th hole with a birdie.
“We are delighted to win,” said Wright. “We were really up against it at the turn but managed to win a couple of holes on the spin and took full advantage of the momentum to seal the win with two holes to spare.”
