American Idol may still draw in millions of viewers every week, but when it comes to the new judges, former contestant and award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson isn’t singing anyone’s praises.

Hudson visited the set of Live with Kelly & Michael and shared her disappointment with this year’s American Idol judges.

The 31-year-old said: “It’s taken a bit to get used to the new judges. I come from American Idol, so I’m used to seeing Simon, Paula and Randy… It’s kind of awkward for me to see it with new judges. I’m really happy that Mariah Carey’s there because she’s a singer, so she knows what to expect, how to judge, even the position that the kids are in when they’re auditioning.”

However, when asked about judges Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj – both successful artists, both singers – she could only respond with a vague, ‘Ummmm, yes.’

It’s been quite the year for Hudson, who is currently starring in NBC’s Smash as Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Moore, a Broadway star. The Oscar–winner will also be the latest recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

American Idol airs on Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm on OSN First and OSN First HD. Smash airs on Fridays at 9pm and Saturdays at 3pm on OSN First.
