Several other pop artists have made similar films recently including Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.
The new project, under the helm of director Stephen Kijak, will act as a revealing tell-all chronicle of the group.
Kijak, who hopes to complete the documentary by August, said the group have been enthusiastic about the project, promising that it won’t just be a ‘3D puff piece’.
The reunited Backstreet Boys celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, with a world tour planned for May and a new album on the way.
