The Whisperer

A British holidaymaker visiting the kingdom for the first time got an unexpected taste of Bahraini kindness.

The young man had just finished dining at one of the island’s restaurants and, late at night, he called his extended family now living in the kingdom, to pick him up.

After being assured a car had been sent to collect him, he began pacing the car park waiting for his ride to arrive. After about 20 minutes, a car pulled up by the restaurant and the young man approached the Bahraini driver and asked him if ‘George’ had sent him. “Get in my friend, where are you going?” said the driver.

On the way back to his temporary Bahrain home, the young man innocuously asked how long the driver had known George. It soon became clear the driver had no idea who he was talking about and was just being friendly by offering a lost-looking expat a ride home.

Only in Bahrain could you flag down a total stranger for a ride home safely late at night ... free of charge by the way!
