Controversial Oscars host Seth MacFarlane has dismissed claims he will host next year’s event and said his role was a ‘one off’.
His hosting performance, dubbed by critics as the ‘meanest’ in the show’s history, included jokes about female nudity, domestic violence and ethnic minorities in Hollywood.
Despite drawing in a record number of viewers, the Ted star and Family Guy creator said he will not return, adding ‘the Oscars is basically the Kobayashi Maru test’, a reference to the un-winnable training scenario depicted in the Star Trek film series.
With MacFarlane apparently taking a back seat, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences may not have to look too far in the search for next year’s hosts. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who oversaw this year’s Golden Globes, have been mentioned in almost every article criticising MacFarlane’s stint and were even referenced by Seth in the week leading up to the ceremony. “They’ll be hosting next year,” he said.
