NINETEEN years since Clerks was released and seven since Clerks II. Writer and director Kevin Smith, pictured right, confirms that Clerks III is now on the way and it will be the ‘best film’ he’ll ever make.

Smith posted the first page of his script on social network site Facebook recently followed by the message: “THE BEGINNING OF THE END. Twenty years ago today, we started shooting Clerks. Twenty years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4.20 this morning and started writing Clerks III.”

Continuing, Smith teased: “It’s been like hanging out with old friends. And after two hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion ... Clerks III will be the best film I’ll ever make.”

Smith has been playing with ideas for a third and final Clerks story for around a year now. In 2012, he announced plans to make Clerks III as a Broadway musical. Last month, Smith said he wanted to release Clerks III as a book before turning it into a feature film.

Released in 1994, Clerks was a quirky comedy about a pair of shop assistants played by Jeff Anderson and Brian O’Halloran. Smith’s film is now considered a cult classic.
