Man and machine have had a symbiotic relationship for years, but the line between the two is becoming blurred thanks to a new device that can control anything from computers and video games to military drones and even your lights with a flick of the wrist.

The Myo ‘Jedi wristband’ is set to go on sale in a matter of weeks, according to MailOnline.com

The device, which is worn around the forearm, detects the electrical activity produced by the user’s muscles and also contains its own motion sensing chips.

Users can programme the band to recognise gestures, swipes and even set functions for each finger, giving the wearer ‘Jedi-like abilities’ from Star Wars films.

Developers Thalmic Labs said the device could ‘enhance’ wearers’ abilities.

Stephen Lake, co-founder and CEO of Thalmic Labs, said: “As a company, we’re interested in how we can use technology to enhance our abilities as humans – in short, giving us superpowers.

“We’re excited to see how the Myo blurs the lines between us and digital technology.”

The firm demonstrated the device on YouTube and showed it being used to play computer games, swipe through slides and even flying a drone.

Apps on Android and iOS devices can also access the band, so it could be used as a new interface for phones and tablets.

Utilising the device, you can control presentations, video, content, games, browse the web, create music, edit videos, and so much more, the company claims.

“With the wave of your hand, Myo will transform how you interact with your ever-changing digital world,” the firm said in a statement.

“The Myo armband lets you use the electrical activity in your muscles to wirelessly control your computer, phone, and other favourite digital technologies. The result is a seamless way to interact with computers, and a truly magical sense of control.”

Prices start from BD50.
