The British School of Bahrain (BSB) is currently working together with the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in promoting a Junior Drag Racing School initiative.
The BIC Drag Racing Team recently visited its Hamala campus, to the delight of students, to promote the project and it is now available to sign up to through the after-school BSB Academies which provide sports, music lessons as well as creative and performing arts classes.
BSB already boasts a number of accomplished karting enthusiasts, both staff members and students.
During the 2012/13 season, it sponsored Year 10 student Louis Skalski, who came third in the celebrated Red Bull Kart Fight racing contest and took the fastest lap crown.
Recently, members of the BSB Senior School Students Council were invited on a guided tour of the BIC, which included the Sakhir Tower roof terrace, its state-of-the-art race control room, the media room, pit lanes, and the students were given the opportunity to experience how it feels to be in pole position and to stand on the winner’s podium.
The students were driven around the track, giving them an insight into just how tight the turns of the circuit are.
The whole process of hosting a large international event such as the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix was explained to them, from the many months of marketing through to the security and health and safety issues.
BSB is a high-performing, English National Curriculum international school with a reputation and vision for excellence and innovation. In 2012, it was awarded ‘outstanding’ in all six categories by the Quality Assurance Authority.
