Gulf Weekly The Whisperer

The weekend’s speed climbing show proved to be another winner from the Whitaker stable of sporting wonders with numerous schools and clubs asking the organisers for ‘the wall’ erected outside the Seef row of coffee shops once it was finished with. The Whisperer will be intrigued to find out where it ends up.

My sources within the Ministry of Culture were somewhat taken aback by its pulling power and even officially acknowledged the fact. “Through the weekend there was a universal desire expressed by youngsters and their families for a climbing wall and gym to be established in Bahrain.

“The event proved that the sport has a great future in the country and can become an aspirational activity for young people within the community. The International Speed Climbing Federation (ISPC) is looking for new venues to stage a round of the World Cup Championship in future years. With the success of this event and the enthusiasm and scope for the sport, there is a genuine desire to see it develop in the future.”

No dates and no venue announced, however. We await a step in the right direction. Please ensure it does not go on some bureaucrat’s pending file.
