Legend has it that in 1840 Anna Stanhope, Duchess of Bedford, began feeling hungry every afternoon between her light lunch and lighter dinner.

To avoid pangs of hunger, she requested tea and assorted baked goods each day from her servants. Eventually the duchess invited her friends to join her and the tradition of afternoon tea became a social occasion.

By 1880, afternoon tea had spread to the homes of the British upper classes, tea shops across the country and then to well known hotels.

Today, the tradition is alive and well at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain, where friends can get together, relax and unwind with their very own royal tea party with scrumptious snacks for BD4.900++ per individual, or for BD3.900++ a head for those in a group.

There are plates of freshly-prepared sandwiches, scones, cakes, tarts, petit fours, pure honey and a range of sweets served with a selection of teas.

Recently the wives of foreign ambassadors in the kingdom met up at Cappuccino’s Café at Crowne Plaza Bahrain. A Fusion High Tea was enjoyed by the Thai, Indonesian, Brunei, Malaysian, Indian and Russian representatives and friends.
