Pay full price? Not if I can help it. I would not be a true Winnipegger if I didn’t look for a deal before making a purchase.
In the city I come from in Canada we are notorious for being ‘coupon-cutters’. Therefore, on my weekly quest to find and share cost-cutting deals, I will be making the folks back home proud.
I’m sure you have noticed the large and loud signs being slapped up in many store windows inviting passers-by to stop, look and buy.
Many of us are in such a hurry we haven’t the time to explore and that’s where I step in. Since we are well on our way into summer and with Ramadan just around the corner, it is time to bring out those comfortable shopping shoes.
There are a plethora of deals to be had and, since I have been out and about, I will share a few of the best ones I’ve spotted on my travels.
While in Al Hayat Mall I happened on Chicco Kids, which carries an Italian brand of children’s clothing, and are running 30 per cent off selected children’s fashions.
Lucky for me the age range is 0 to eight years and with a summer trip booked to Canada; my seven-year-old son could use a few smart outfits for the inevitable family gatherings.
I noticed some cotton casual trousers in his size and in both white and beige. So I found myself asking: “Which colour would go well with pizza sauce?”
I then held up a crested light blue, striped polo jersey alongside the beige trousers and I was sold.
I could just see him rolling up the bottoms and wading into frigid Lake Winnipeg.
Next stop was the Isa Town Mall and I rocked up to Red Tag knowing full well they had a full range of items starting from BD2.9, BD1.9 and absolute gifts at only 900fils.
Straightaway I was eyeing up their BD1.9 cotton trousers in ice-cream shades of mint green and orange sherbet. These would look delicious next to any of the contrasting coloured T-shirts selling for a mere 900fils. On another folding table I also spotted pairs of trousers in lemon, fuchsia, bright orange and cobalt blue.
I also slipped into Monsoon in Seef Mall and noticed a 70 per cent off sale which included an array of beautiful floral printed dresses in various styles and in cotton, viscose and poly.
These dresses would surely attract more than just the bees.
OK, now to accessories. What better place than Accessorize? Luckily they are currently sharing the same sale. I’m a huge fan of the long, chained necklaces adorned with stylish charms with matching earrings and rings.
Before I left I ducked into Centrepoint holding its Ramadan Shopping Bonanza in Babyshop, Splash, LifeStyle, and Shoe Mart. I find it so convenient because these shops are all under one roof. To ‘seal the deal’ after my purchases were made I was handed over a voucher. With every BD 15 you spent in Centrepoint you receive a BD3 rebate.
