Mohammed Al Noaimi became the Royal Golf Club’s Scratch Champion 2013, continuing the Bahrain National Team’s hold on the title for the third consecutive year.
His name will join those of Abdulla Al Hakam and Nasser Yacoob on the championship trophy.
The 36-hole event started out with 80 players in the first qualifying round with the top 24 going through to contest the final.
Al Noaimi shot a 75 in the first round and followed it up with a 76, for a winning total of 151. This gave him a comfortable winning margin of five shots over runner-up Ilya Goniker who shot back-to-back 78s for a total of 156.
“The scratch championship is one of the most highly-sought after titles on the Royal Golf Club’s calendar,” said Cormac Flannery, the club’s golf operations manager. “Mohammed has been playing very well all year and is a deserving winner.
“Well done to Ilya too – they have both been playing very consistently over the past few months.”
The event was also a day to remember for Dr Stan Kwik who achieved a hole-in-one on the 7th hole in the final round.
