Gulf Weekly Hubail and Al Hakam clinch Monday Madness victory

THE Bahraini pairing of Shaker Hubail and Abdulla Al Hakam cruised to an overall win in the A&E Monday Madness Night Golf Series at the Royal Golf Club despite not contesting the final two rounds.

The duo began the series with second place finishes followed by a win, a third place and a fifth place in the next three events. Their overall points total was 13, giving them an unassailable lead going into the final night of the series – just as well since Al Hakam was away on Bahrain National Golf Team duty in Egypt.

The race for second and third places in the order of merit was very tight with six teams all tied on seven points.

After a comprehensive countback, it was two husband and wife pairings who claimed the prizes; Heinz and Tatyana Hurter took second place overall after amazingly leaping from 14th position on the final night. Rob and Debbie Lane also climbed five places to grab third place overall, courtesy of their third place finish on the final night.

A prize-giving ceremony took place in the Club’s Members’ Lounge after the match. Kate Gibson from African & Eastern was on hand to present the prizes.

“This was a fantastic end to the series,” said Cormac Flannery, the Royal Golf Club’s golf operations manager. “We had Shaker and Abdulla out of reach and a twelve spot leap for second place in the series – it was an exciting finish. Thanks to African and Eastern for their generous sponsorship over the past 13 weeks and we look forward to having them on board again very soon.”

The next Monday Madness Night Golf Series got underway on Monday and is sponsored by Nandos.

The series is open to non-members at a cost of BD20. For more details, email golfevents@theroyalgolfclub.com
