TEENAGE international golfing student Sam Hobday fired a level par 72 to win the gross section of the DHL Order of Merit midweek qualifier at the Royal Golf Club.
His score gave him a three shot cushion over runner-up Mohamed Al Noaimi, a member of Bahrain’s national golf team who shot 75. Matt Doyle took third place with 79.
In the men’s nett division, Andy Schuster returned an incredible nett score of 66 to romp to a four shot win over second placed Paul Heaton who achieved a respectable nett 70. Chris Fowler came third with nett 72.
Debbie Lane built on her recent good form to win the ladies gross division with a very solid 94. Blandie Mills was second with 101, and lady vice captain Dena Wales was third with 105. Karin Lutz achieved the best nett score of 75, Valerie Lim was second on 79 while Young Og Kume was third with nett 80.
“Nineteen-year-old Sam has been working hard on his game over the past three weeks and it’s nice to see that work rewarded with a win,” said Cormac Flannery, the Royal Golf Club’s golf operations manager. “There was some fantastic scoring in every category so well done to all the prize winners.”
