Tourism chiefs have held a brainstorming session in a bid to attract more visitors to Bahrain and believe improving the training of hotel staff and better internet connections could make all the difference.
As part of an ongoing series of co-operative and consulting meetings between the tourism sector and its employees, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism Shaikh Khalid bin Hamood Al Khalifa held talks with representatives of the kingdom’s Four-Star Hotels Committee.
Both sides discussed a number of topics, including providing free Internet services for hotel visitors, in line with international standards required by the UN World Tourism Organisation, in order to upgrade services available in Bahrain.
The committee is said to have welcomed the proposal and promised to implement it. Shaikh Khalid also urged members to work closely with both the public and private sectors to attract investment opportunities to help stimulate growth in the tourism sector.
Staff and skill shortages and ‘questionable stay experiences’ were putting a heavy onus on the tourism operators to ‘uphold standards’, the meeting also heard.
The hotels were urged to grasp the opportunities opened by the Bahrain Summer Festival events and use them to promote Bahrain’s tourism attractions.
