Gulf Weekly Bahrainis dominate course

Bahrain National Golf Team player Nasser Yaqoob, below, clinched top spot in the September round of the DHL Order of Merit Series at the Royal Golf Club with a gross score of 69. Fellow Bahrainis Yousif Majid and Hamad Mubarak came second and third with scores of 73 and 74 respectively.

Another Bahraini, Hamed Salem, took first place in the competition’s nett division with a score of 68 nett. Andrew Love came second with nett 69 and Rashid Musbah was third with nett 71.

Schoolgirl Deanna Ngo took the lowest gross in the ladies division with a very impressive 83, while Sara Thompson was second on 91 and Deanna’s mother, Valerie Lim, finished third on 95.

Lady Captain Hanne Hansen won the ladies nett division on 74 and Lady Vice Captain Dena Wales came second with nett 75. Pauline Jeakings took third place with a nett score of 84.

As the weather starts to cool down the Royal Golf Club has launched new green fee deals for autumn. Play 18 holes on the Montgomerie course on a weekday (Sunday to Wednesday) and pay BD25 per person or tee off on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday for BD38 per person, inclusive of access to practice facilities beforehand and shared golf cart. These rates are valid from now until October 31 for bookings made within a 14-day window. To book call 17750777.

The Royal Golf Club’s lady captain Hanne Hansen and lady vice captain Dena Wales will be holding a ladies-only golf tournament at the club today.

Seef Dental is the main sponsor of the event and has provided the winner’s trophy and T-shirts for all the players.

The betterball stableford competition will tee off with an 8.30am shotgun start and the event will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony and lunch for all competitors.

The competition is free to Royal Golf Club lady members. Lady non-members are also welcome to join in for the special autumn green fee rate of BD25 per person.
