The kingdom’s opera fans were treated to an enchanting evening at The National Theatre as Placido Domingo and his leading ladies dazzled on stage.

The operatic superstar had mesmerised the kingdom in November last year and his strong stage presence paired with his powerful range delighted the crowds once again.

Domingo’s return coincides with the National Theatre’s first anniversary.

The Grammy Award winner was accompanied by Julia Novikova and Ailyn Perez.

The German State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate was moving to say the least, telling a story with every note and melody. Eugene Kohn conducted the show.

The programme consisted of a selection of arias and duets from operas, operettas, musicals, zarzuelas and popular songs.

The orchestra prepared the audience for a memorable night with a beautiful rendition of Richard Wagner’s Die Meistersinger overture. Domingo then appeared to loud thundering applause.

Although Domingo never fails to impress, it was Novikova and Perez that hit all the right notes.
The crowd were so enthralled they gave a standing ovation.

It has been reported that Domingo, 64, is considering retiring in the near future. It makes every performance special and those in the audience will be fortunate enough to be able to tell their families that they saw a legend performing live in Bahrain.
