There’s a big weekend ahead at Bahrain Rugby Football Club in Janabiya as it plays host to full programme of live sport.

On Friday, Bahrain RFC’s first XV rugby squad take on old rivals Doha in a match that will, just like last year, decide the destination of this year’s Gulf Premiership title.

Having taken only a losing bonus point from a disappointing defeat in the opening game of the season in Qatar back in September, Bahrain have gone on to register two successive victories over Muscat, although their most recent win in Oman two weeks ago was only secured by a late penalty goal and so they currently lead the way with 10 points.

Doha on the other hand crushed Muscat away from home last Friday and will therefore expect to do the same in the return fixture next week.

It’s all still to play for. The challenge for Bahrain is a considerable one as they have to beat Doha with a four-try winning bonus point – something they haven’t managed in over four years – and stop them earning a losing point for coming within seven points to steal the title away from their opponents’ grasp for the first time.

Whatever the permutations of the result, a win will be crucial for Bahrain’s season in what is their final competitive fixture before the return of the Gulf Top Six in January.

All support will be most welcome for the 4.15pm kick-off.
