Reigning cup holders Danieli & C. were up against a changed OAK FC following a few closed season signings.
A fast-paced and skilful game was decided by two well taken OAK first half goals to send the side second in the league, having played one game less than the leaders.
OAK broke the deadlock, opening their account on 20-minutes, when veteran playmaker, Adil Glia, hit a long pass, picking out Sadiq between two defenders running into the penalty box. Sadiq’s superb control allowed him to make no mistake dispatching a low-range shot past the keeper to register his first league goal of the season and continuing his fine form during pre-season friendlies.
OAK’s advantage was then doubled when new signing Rayan Alajaji capitalised on some great midfield play from Moody. The second half saw a more open flowing game as Danieli & C. threw everything forward. They were cruelly denied by the woodwork as well as some heroic saves from Mostafa, OAK’s in-form keeper.
OAK themselves had a few chances to extend their lead and kill the game but were surprisingly unable to capitalise on some sweet play in front of goal.
OAK player-coach, Derrick Rodney, said : “We are delighted to have overcome a very strong Danieli & C. team in our first competitive match of the season.
“To keep a clean sheet, against such a potent attacking force, is testimony to the tremendous team spirit we are creating at this club. We promised our supporters a strong start to the season and we have delivered.”
