The second and final round of the 2013 CIK-FIA World KF and KF-Junior Championship starts today at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).
Some of the world’s talented up-and-coming karters are set to compete at the event which will take place until Saturday at BIC’s Bahrain International Karting Circuit in Sakhir.
The championship’s Bahrain round comes after the exciting curtain-raising round that took place last August at the UK’s PF International Kart Circuit in Brandon, Grantham.
The opening round saw a masterful display from Dutchman Max Verstappen as he powered to first place in the KF ahead of NiIcklas Nielsen who will look to make amends at the Bahrain round. Meanwhile, Briton Ben Hanley managed third place. In the KF-Junior class, British talent Lando Norris put forward a dominant display to see off threats from Jehan Daruvala who finished second ahead of Germany’s Mick Betsch.
This year’s championship features 140 drivers, with 55 competing in the KF class, and 85 in the KF-Junior class.
Flying the flag for Bahrain are the Saudi Falcons Team’s Abdulla Al Thawadi in the KF class and Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa who competes in the KF-Junior class for Bahrain One Racing.
Away from the track, a packed programme of family-friendly entertainment activities will keep fans delighted on the sidelines of the races. Fans will enjoy music from the Bahraini Lewa Band, face painting, henna art, calligraphy, pottery painting, cotton candy, live pottery, balloon twisters, carnival game and other attractions. Food and beverage stalls will also be on hand.
Entry to the general public is free on all days of karting action. Paddock tickets costing BD10 allow holders access to the paddock area where they can mingle with teams and drivers.
