WHOEVER suggested that you can’t have too much of a good thing just hasn’t yet been tempted to try out the Thursday Night Brunch at the Movenpick Hotel Bahrain.
I know it doesn’t sound right. How can you have a staple diet of the Bahrain dining out scene on the night before its traditional setting? But, you have to remember, the Movenpick are masters at the game.
I’ve written a couple of rave reviews over the years about the weekend brunch experience at this establishment by the airport and it’s picked up a few well-deserved magazine accolades for its fare along the way.
In fact, on some Fridays you can’t get a seat without an advanced booking which is absolute proof of its popularity.
It may have been with that in mind that its wily hotelier and general manager thought it worth carrying out an audacious experiment of attempting to combine the Thursday Steak Night with the buzz created during the following day’s late breakfast-cum-lunch. “It’s when brunch falls in love with dinner!” he confidently suggested and at the recent launch he was all smiles, counting a growing number of tables pre-booked for the following week.
Heinz Kraehenbuehl was a happy man indeed as it looks like he has another winner on his hands.
The Thursday Night Brunch experience is a far less formal affair compared to the normal weekend dining out experience at a 5-Star hotel.
There’s a DJ pumping out the action and the young and young-at-heart can start their clubbing night with fantastic food and flowing beverages at the lobby Gallery and Silk’s restaurant.
Cocktail glasses dazzle almost as much as the silly hats, which flashed on and off, worn by the waiting T-shirt clad service crew.
The food is as fine as you would find on a Friday featuring healthy salads, a wide variety of appetisers and Mediterranean light starters, as well as soups, before raiding the butcher shop corner and South American Churrasco oven for a choice of succulent and tender prime cuts.
The Angus beef was hard to beat and the spare ribs divine.
There was also the opportunity to ravage a giant creature from the deep if fish was your fancy. On offer this week was a giant baked red snapper cooked to perfection.
The challenge was to still make room for a selection from the European cheese counter and sweet trolleys.
