Perseverance is the key to success

Whilst presenting my nutrition seminar over the weekend at Bahrain Rugby Football Club, I noticed a recurring theme come up … the ‘all or nothing’ approach.

We tend to focus either all of our efforts on becoming fitter, stressing over every minor detail and making sure we are doing everything correctly, or we go off the rails, eat rubbish and lie on the couch wondering where it all went wrong!

This approach is unhealthy and leads to a bad relationship with fitness; every time you try so hard, yet inevitably meet failure and end up worse off.

The number one factor that will contribute to success with fitness (and with life) is consistency.

Day in, day out, keep chugging along that road that will lead to a better you!

Now sometimes there are things that will slow you down, sometimes even stop you, but you must continue on that road and not quit altogether like I see so many do, so often.

Don’t put the little things on a pedestal, so what if you had to eat a bag of crisps, just simply didn’t have the time to go for that gym session, or the menu at the restaurant has something that you just need to eat … don’t worry!

Just get straight back on track, continue as you did before you slipped up and don’t try and make up for lost time.

If you are doing all the right things such as what I have previously outlined then you’ll be fine. Sustainable approaches are the best, particularly when coupled with long-term goal setting.

Did you know that some fitness gyms make their money from people who have already given up? Don’t be one of those people, don’t overthink the simple things, get straight back on track if you deviate and you will see long-term results!
