A MINI marketing campaign to promote the UK has been turning heads across the nation.

Events and activities for the GREAT British Week January 15-22, 2014 are fast taking shape.

Organised by the British Embassy and the Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF), the week will be a celebration of everything British and is designed to promote British business, engineering, technology, manufacturing, sport, culture, fashion, innovation, education; indeed everything British, even the British countryside.

Touring the Bahrain roads at the moment, and many readers will have seen them, are a brace of British-manufactured Mini cars ‘wrapped’ in the Union Jack.

The appealing little motors are being used in a promotional campaign that will be featured for the first time at this weekend’s Thank You Bahrain community spectacular.

Pictures of the Mini have been taken all over the island, with famous celebrities and in front of famous buildings. These will be on display at Friday’s National Stadium carpark event.

As momentum begins to build for the GREAT British Week, more and more organisations are signing-up as partners for the various activities that are being run under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad. Clubs, societies, hotels and individuals are all beginning to consider what they can do as part of the week and its celebrations.

Speaking on behalf of the Embassy and its team, event co-ordinator Martin Whitaker, said: “The Week is beginning to create a real buzz within the British and Bahraini communities. Major activities that form part of the week such as the Knowledge and Advanced Engineering & Innovation events are attracting support from the UK and the region.

“They are designed to showcase British business opportunity and excellence. But the week is not all about business; it is also about the historical relationship between the United Kingdom and Bahrain as well as the fact that many British families chose to make the kingdom their home. As a result we have many clubs and associations planning on making the British Week a very ‘British’ affair.”

Run in conjunction with the Bahrain International Air Show and highlighting the 200th anniversary of the bilateral trade agreement between Bahrain and the United Kingdom, GREAT British Week starts on January 15 with a lunch at the BBBF.

This is followed that day by the Knowledge Event that showcases the link and growth of educational and post graduate courses between the two countries. The Advanced Engineering & Innovation Conference, sponsored by the Bahrain Economic Development Board and supported by that most British and Bahraini of companies, McLaren is on January 18. An education event run by the British Council, the involvement of British companies at the air show, the arrival in Bahrain of the new Big Red London Bus, photo exhibitions, fashion and shopping exhibitions, receptions, sports events and finally a Celebration Dinner are all set to make the GREAT British Week a ‘week to remember’.
