FLEET-FOOTED Callum Dawson became a record breaker at the St Christopher’s Junior School sports day and once again excelled on the track.
The 11-year-old, who is also an accomplished footballer, showed signs of true talent and enthusiasm at the annual event.
Head of PE, Mark Holness, said: “After being the only Year 5 student who managed to reach the British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) Games 2012 Final in Dubai, I was confident Callum was going to do well in this year’s sports day.
“He has worked extremely hard refining his technique, particularly keeping his head straight. Callum is an outstanding student who always wants to improve on his previous performances. He is a real credit to himself, his family and the school.”
Proud parents, Giles, Year 3 leader at St Christopher’s School, and Ellie, assistant head of the Infant School, were delighted. Mr Dawson added: “We are very proud of Callum’s efforts on the running track. His own determination alongside some excellent PE teaching has seen him achieve great things on the running track. Maybe an Olympian of the future – we wish!”
Callum broke records for the Y6 Boys 100m with a time of 13.89 seconds and ran the 200m in 29.29s, beating previous record holder Gregor Sword’s results in 2011 of 13.90s in the 100m and 30.89s in the 200m.
The current 100m world record is 9.58s and the 200m world record stands at 19.19s, both run by Jamaican Usain Bolt.
