Sahara Riding Centre held its first event of the 2014 over the weekend, a show jumping spectacular that kicked off the New Year in style.

The event, which was open to all, included three mixed classes for both juniors and adults. The first class was a Clear Round with jump-off, which saw fences standing at 70/80cms.

Around 30 competitors took part in the class, with 14 making it through to the jump-off, but it was the juniors that took home the top trophies. Kate Addison astride The Chief was one of the first to go into the jump-off, followed by fellow juniors Aimee Keen on Rio in second and Hussain Dadallah astride Morhib in third place.

The second class of the morning took part in two phases, with fences up to 90cms, again this was a mixed class with competitors of all ages eager to claim first prize.

All the riders enjoyed a cleverly devised course, which called for technique and precision. Taking home top podium position in the first of his double wins of the day was Salman Faraj riding Thunderbolt, runner up was Erin Sandor with the lovely mare Dorri and in third place was Hani Ali with Fire 2. A honourable mention goes to resilient junior Hussain Dadalla riding The Black who clinched fifth place.

The final class of the morning was an accumulator with a joker. Of the dozen riders, only two brave juniors attempted it, Aimee Keen with Rio and Hussain Dadallah with The Black.

The adults clinched the top three places, Salman Faraj completed his double of the day taking the win with Thunderbolt, who just pipped Erin Sandor riding Cadmus at the post and in third was Shaikh Abdullah Al Khalifa with Cantuccino.

Ahmed Jahromi, who provided the prizes, trophies and rosettes, sponsored the event which was enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.
