The idiotic and shameless trend of the ‘selfie’ rears it’s ugly head once again

In the latter half of 2013 I wrote an article about two idiotic girls in Sweden who robbed a burger restaurant in Halmstad. The reason for their idiocy was not their criminal status; instead it was the incriminating pre-robbery selfies that they took. In this article I went onto ponder what my generation had come to, as I believed it would be the worst selfie story I would ever hear. I was wrong.

A new eye rolling, nausea-inducing selfie story has surfaced and as unbelievable as it sounds: it’s worse.

Last week a senior girl at Clements High School in Limestone County in America took a tour of the University of Alabama’s biology department along with the rest of her class.

This tour was supposed to be educational and somehow beneficial to the students, and as you’d expect, it was requested that the students keep their mobile phones off during the tour. Yet this student, who remains nameless, did not. With regards to the selfie: I’ll cut to the chase. She took a selfie with a cadaver. A dead body. She took a photo of herself (smiling) with a dead body.

I’m just going to let that fact sink in. Not only did she have her phone on and use photography where she shouldn’t have, but she also lifted the plastic sheet covering the face of the cadaver, which is supposed to remain untouched, in order to take the photo. Oh, and did I forget to mention she also shamelessly posted the photo on Instagram.

Of course, action is being taken by the school and this girl shall be punished. Yet it doesn’t detract from the fact that at some point in time this girl thought that such actions were perfectly justified. My generation’s judgement skills are clearly in decline.
