WATER sports enthusiast Anke Brandt from Germany wants to set a new world endurance record by kite surfing around Bahrain.

The 30-year-old consumer marketing manager, who has been living in Bahrain for four years, aims to circumnavigate the island, kite surfing for approximately 250km non-stop.

Her training regime involves a mix of yoga, strength training, running and kite surfing to gain the necessary strength and stamina to achieve her goal and an entry into the Guinness Book of Records.

Battling Brandt wants to start in the last week of February at Amwaj Islands and circle the kingdom counter-clockwise on a course taking her underneath the Saudi Causeway.

“12- 15 knots of wind from the north - west would be ideal. With an average speed of about 25 kilometers I could return to Amwaj Islands after 10 hours,” she said.

The plan is to crack the nine-year-old female kite surfing distance record of 213 kilometers.

Two boats will accompany her and a GPS tracking system carried on her will measure the speed and the distance she travels.

The attempt can be followed live online on the GPS Kitetracker web page: www.kitetracker.com/gps/livemap?r=AnkeBrandt-KiteBeyond or https://bit.ly/1dYzAlm
