Gulf Weekly High quality vow by new hypermarket

The battle of the supermarkets took a new twist this week with a new player joining the Bahrain retail scene by opening a hypermarket in the Hamad Town district … with plans for two more stores in Muhharaq and Riffa.

Honest Hyper is part of the Honest Group, a Kuwait-based multi-national corporate house with business interests in retail, wholesale, hospitality, energy services, IT and other diversified activities.

Its first hypermarket in Bahrain opens tomorrow in Souq Waqif Mall. Spread across an area of 80,000sq/ft, it aims to provide its customers with a wide range of more than 45,000 products.

Nayeem K Osman, the general manager – group retail (Middle East), promised customers ‘a better shopping experience’ at ‘unmatched affordability, guaranteed quality and choice of products and services’.

At a press conference at the Gulf Hotel on Monday, he said prices were kept competitive by the company dealing directly from farmers to consumers, missing out the middlemen in the process.

The Bahrain operation will be headed by Sundara Rajan, who boasts more than 25 years of experience in the local retail market. He said: “The new Honest essential daily commodities like rice, sugar and spices will be not just economical but high in quality.”
