Today the fitness industry is in a bit of a shambles. There’s a lot of money to be made from people who want to get their ideal body, particularly from women.
In this instalment, let’s look at another myth that surrounds women’s training which are often simply stated as fact.
Older women shouldn’t lift weights: Again, I’m not sure where this myth came from, but it’s out there.
I understand that women are worried that their bones aren’t as strong as they were in their youth. But here’s the thing; weight training actually improves bone density.
Not only that, but the science tells us that weight training ‘preserved bone density while improving muscle mass, strength, and balance in postmenopausal women’. All of this leads to a better quality of life, and less risk of injury – not more.
I’ve always believed that age is only a number. A big motto that comes apparent with people that train is ‘use it or lose it’. Aging effects are greatly slowed by correct training.
I also need to add that it is never too late to start. Starting at 90 is better than not starting at all, the best time to start weight training is now… well maybe not right now, finish reading this report get some stuff sorted, but plan to do it in the very near future!
