The essence of femininity lies beneath a woman’s daily wear and with the launch of the Dutch lingerie shop Hunkemoller, ladies can now experience this extremely popular European brand here in Bahrain.

Jawad Group officials, along with the brand’s executive Philip Mountford, cut the ribbon at Bahrain City Centre to signify the partnership. The visiting Hunkemoller CEO said: “Over the past four years we have grown from 380 to 600 stores. We are going to open 100 stores this year alone so that is big growth for the business.”

Mr Mountford made a special trip to Bahrain for this launch, hopping off the ski slopes in Italy just the day before in order to join in the celebrations. “We have a fantastic relationship with the Jawad Business Group and we will be opening a lot more stores together, they have invested a lot with us,” he added.

Sophia Jawad, is the executive buyer for Jawad Business Group and said: “We needed a store like this, offering fashionable, affordable and good quality items. It’s one of the only stores that features up to ‘G’ in cup sizes. We have a sports collection, shapewear, brassieres, knickers, nightwear, hosiery and various accessories.”

During my in-store investigation I was drawn to a cozy leopard print grey and black robe, which would be perfect after a warm bath for BD22.900 and BD4.900 for matching furry socks. There are also nightgowns with cute sayings like ‘Love you every day of the week’ for only BD7.900.

I found Bahraini Danah Alwardi, 24, searching through a pile of fleece pajama tops and bottoms for only BD11.900. The blue and black heart prints with a satin pink drawstring were adorable.

I also ran into Yvonne Kemp, TA at St Christopher’s School, who was admiring a floral graphic print and purple lace night gown. My verdict: gorgeous.

Elsewhere, Kewalram & Sons has launched its new collections of Titan watches this month. The exquisite Raga Pearls offering, for example, uses delicate craftsmanship and pearls on these classic watches in 25 different designs.

My favourite is the Perola, which means ‘pearl’ in Portuguese. It is set with 22 pearls and available in black or white pearl sets in free fall links, which make the designs quite dainty. It costs BD87. Another striking timepiece is the Hyacinth, inspired by flowers. It features five petals inlaid with 10 pearls with a half bangle bracelet for BD39 and available in bi-metal finish with white pearls.
