Formula One testing in Bahrain starts today, and the kingdom’s motorsport fans are looking forward to being among the first in the world to see the teams in action in their 2014 cars.
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) will be hosting two sessions of the pre-season tests with the first running until Saturday and the next from February 27 to March 2 and follow tests held in Jerez, Spain, in January.
The sessions in Sakhir are crucial for each of Formula One’s 11 squads, as they will mark their last chance to take to the track and find the best set-up for their 2014 challengers before the start of the 2014 Formula One season in mid-March.
Furthermore, the new campaign brings with it some of the biggest changes to Formula One racing’s regulations for quite some time.
BIC has scheduled four open days for fans to see the action live at the ‘home of motorsport in the Middle East’ – on Friday and Saturday and again on February 28 and March 1.
Fans will be able to watch the testing from BIC’s Main Grandstand, which overlooks the Formula One pit lane, team garages and the circuit’s main straight. Doors will be open to the public from 9am to 5pm.
All 11 Formula One teams are expected to be in Bahrain for the tests.
The 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship kick starts two weeks after the Bahrain tests with the Australian Grand Prix from March 14-16.
The Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is the third of 19 races this season. It will be taking place on April 4-5-6 in Sakhir.
Tickets for the Grand Prix are now on sale. * New rules: Page 23
