BREEF hosted the Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Show Jumping Championships at the BDF Equestrian ground in Sakhir on Saturday.

The opening juniors class consisting of one round with jumpoff saw West Wind flying into action with Kate Addison. The pair took first place and Aimee Keen astride the always hot Rio, came runner-up. Abdulla Ali astride Margan took third place.

In the second junior class, an accumulator with Joker, the talents of Ahmed Essa shone though. He not only steered Tenor into the top spot, but claimed third place with his second mount of the day, Osina. Hot on his hooves was again Addison, this time on The Chief, for the runner-up slot.

The first of the adult classes, another accumulator with Joker, allowed the talents of Muslim Ali and the beautiful Emily to excel. They beat a field of over 44 contenders to claim the trophy. Whilst another 14 pairs had been clear over the Joker it was then a question of timings. Taking runner-up position with the second fastest time was Mohammed Jassim riding Al Yabes, followed by stable companion Sadiq Abbas astride Keshbol.

The Grand Prix Class which followed, was moved from its usual finale position in order to accommodate the restructuring of the whole arena for the six bar jumping class (adult 2).

Claiming an outstanding victory was Erin Sandor with her beautiful mare Sondos Sienna. The pair surpassed the rest of the field, with a fabulous clear round over fences standing at 130/140cm a round that clinched the deal for Erin to take home the coveted GP trophy. Basel Al Dossari with BDF Noor took runner-up position and in third place was Sami Ghazwan riding Abdulla.

The final class was the six bar jumping (adult 2). Six 110cm fences were lined up and contestants had to clear all of them to move into the next round. It may sound easy but it was not!

The first round saw the field of more than 20 riders reduced to a dozen going into the next round with the same six fences raised.

Round 2 produced seven riders going forward to the penultimate round. This time one of the fences was removed and the other five were raised again.

Battling it out in the final round were only four hopefuls, with four fences stood at approximately 140cm.

It was an unfortunate knock that put Ghazwan into both second and third position with Abdulla and Fairooz respectively, however, taking his fabulous horse BDF Noor clear over these final fences to win was Basel Al Dossari.

This spectacular event had played to a packed audience with all the classes being thoroughly enjoyed by riders, horses and spectators alike.

The next BREEF show jumping event is the penultimate event scheduled for March 22.
