Executives at Troon, the Royal Golf Club managers, are celebrating the announcement that The National Azerbaijan Golf Club has been selected to host an addition to the 2014 European Challenge Tour Schedule.
The first facility in this emerging golf destination, will host the inaugural Azerbaijan Challenge Open, ‘surpassing all expectations’, in only the club’s first full year of operation. The purpose-built championship 18-hole venue, is located in Quba. The event, which takes place in July when the Challenge Tour’s season is in full swing, will give the team led by PGA professional and general manager, Philip Henderson, the ‘perfect opportunity’ to firmly place Azerbaijan on the golfing map.
“This is a fantastic year for Troon properties, the consistency of our associates across the international portfolio is testament to their dedication and ability to own situations in the delivery of world-class events,” said Bruce Glasco, senior vice president and managing director, Troon International Operations.
It is hoped a senior tour’s event will be staged in Bahrain in the near future.
