I love watching crime procedural shows; be it Castle, Bones, CSI, Mentalist or White Collar. There’s a certain excitement in spotting the perpetrator (hint, it was the person they interrogated in the first 10 minutes) and watching the mystery unfold.
I’ll admit it: most crime shows follow a predictable pattern. There’s the eccentric – Neal Caffrey from White Collar or Richard Castle from Castle – and the conventional officer of the law – Peter Burke and Kate Beckett respectively.
Even though similar crimes are solved in every episode, there is something about these shows that keeps us hooked; poised on the edge of our seats until the next episode. Why else would they be among the highest-grossing shows on TV?
I’m currently in the midst of binge-watching White Collar, and I am addicted. Why, you ask. It might have something to do with the well-developed character arcs and the fascinating plotlines. Or the inescapable charm of Matt Bomer as a smooth-talking ex-con.
Even though the crime at hand will be solved in 40 minutes, it’s amazing to get lost in a fast-paced world of action and intrigue. Especially when the world outside seems to slow down, it is almost inevitable to get sucked into the delightful vortex of TV shows. Despite how repetitive they may seem.
