Sweetening alternatives

Health does not just mean keeping our weight in check. Health is in the food that we choose on a daily basis.

And, for a lot of us, sugar is one of the things that comes into our daily routine on a regular basis: refined sugar that we add to desserts and tea for example; and even artificial sweeteners that might be free of calories but contain lots of substances that are harmful to health.

The side-effects of sugar go far beyond weight gain. Sugar speeds up the ageing process and increases wrinkles. Sugar disrupts sleep and messes with the balance of hormones, in addition to many other side-effects.

But the question is: if we know sugar is bad for us why do we keep eating it?

Why don’t you sweeten your food with natural alternatives such as honey in your tea, date syrup in desserts, pomegranate syrup in salad dressings, or even fresh fruits in desserts such as adding dates, raisins or bananas and apples to some sweet dishes.

These are all alternatives that have the same sweetening effects but without the side-effects.
