SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, is offering its customers a new way to relax pre-flight with the opening of a yoga pilot project in its exclusive lounge at London Heathrow’s Terminal 4.

The two-months pilot project is available to customers flying from the airport on any of its 13 member airlines. The studio will have yoga mats and a video showing a series of easy-to-follow techniques.

“Behind the design concept of each SkyTeam Exclusive Lounge is a focus on our customers’ wellbeing, taking them away from the hectic airport terminal and into a tranquil environment,” said Fatima da Gloria, SkyTeam brand and communications director. “Yoga is renowned for improving the mind and body through its focus on stretching and breathing – perfect for some pre-flight fitness.”

The pilot yoga studio builds on SkyTeam’s existing relaxing facilities at Heathrow, which include a wellness centre offering a wide range of complimentary spa treatments, an oxygen bar for a pre-departure energy boost and massage chairs.

SkyTeam member airlines offer customers access to 516 lounges worldwide. The 20 members are Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.

SkyTeam offers its 612 million annual customers over 16,323 daily flights to 1,052 destinations in 177 countries.

In addition to its global lounges available to its customers, SkyTeam alliance has two exclusive lounges in London’s Heathrow Airport and Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport. The alliance is set to open a new exclusive lounge at Sydney International Airport towards the end of this year, with a fourth lounge in Dubai scheduled to open early in 2015.
