The Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2015 aims to grow a new generation of experts in the field of agricultural production.
BIGS, which is organised by the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, will be staged at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre from February 25 to March 1.
The annual event is held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka, president of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.
The show’s motto is ‘Agricultural Training for Sustainable Harvest’ and it will focus on training programmes, education qualifications and capacity building.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, BIGS general coordinator, said: “This year, we will focus on presenting a variety of capacity-building programmes in agriculture aimed at experts, enthusiasts, school students, graduates and any available opportunities to build agricultural expertise.”
The event has featured exhibitors from the region and across the globe including the US, France, Spain, Italy, UK, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Thailand, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen and Japan.
The event has also witnessed an accelerating development over the years. Shaikha Maram said: “We anticipate the participation of more than 100 exhibitors this year and 40 international participants.”
Shaikha Maram also praised the ‘fruitful, continuous cooperation’ with key partner Tamkeen, the national labour fund.
Hall 1, called the Marketplace, will feature flowers, nurseries, tools, pots, garden furniture, machinery, lighting and other items. Hall 2 will house the latest trends in the field of landscaping and design.
The Garden Club will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary of the Annual Flower and Vegetable Show.
