Thirty teams in fray for Centenary cricket clash

Cricket Bahrain Association (CBA) president Saleem Elias officially inaugurated The Indian Club-Bahrain Centenary Cricket Cup at the club’s premises in Gudaibiya with 30 teams taking part in the 7-a-side tournament.

The league-cum-knockout event marks the start of the sporting elements of club’s Centenary Celebrations, which will be officially launched on October 24 and run for 100 days through to January 30 next year. The programme includes a wide range of sporting, cultural and community-based activities with high profile VVIP, celebrity and cultural guests visiting from India.

Other dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony included BS Bisht from the Indian Embassy; sponsors’ representatives – Nilantha from BMMI, Paul Baker, general manager–Nissan, and Alok Gupta from YK Almoayyed, Yaser Sadeq from Araf Sadeq Design Consultants and M.A. Kapur from Sportsland; Raman, president of Awali Cricket Club, and Prachur Shukla, development officer of CBA. Proceedings were presided over by club vice-president Ashok Kumar, general secretary Cassius Pereira, and cricket secretary Nishant Bhat.

Al Mahroos team claimed a prize of BD100 for ‘best dressed team’ during the ceremony. Balloons and pigeons were released into the air and the guests of honour took part in ceremonial batting and bowling as the event drew to a close and the real action began with the first two games of the tournament.

Results:
Group C – The Shaheen Group 55 all out in 6 overs (Janaka 27) bt ABM Climax 24 all out in 3.5 overs by 31 runs. Man of the Match (MoM) – Janaka.

Group A – BCC ‘A’ 56 all out in 5.4 overs (Fagiz 16, Babar 16) bt New Life Line 34 for 4 in 6 overs (Hafiz 17) by 22 runs. MoM – Babar.
