A field of more than 80 players took part in Awali Golf Club’s inaugural Medal 18-holes singles stroke play competition.
New member Salim Khalifa showed how it should be done, coming home as the overall winner with an impressive score of nett-65/gross-71, one shot clear of overall runner-up Derek Hutchinson (66/80).
Prizes, sponsored by the club, were presented by Captain Abdul Elah Fakhroo. Nine other players who took the top three spots were presented prizes in each of three flights, as follows: 1st Flight: 1 Ali Musbah (67/70), 2 Peter Rogers (68/79), 3 Mohammed Rashid (68/72). 2nd Flight: 1 Nathan Sundaresan (67/84), 2 Richard Pawson (67/80), 3 Ali Danesh (69/86). 3rd Flight: 1 Sheldon Custer (66/86), 2 Rajesh Khanna (70/91), 3 Jeff Paa (75/99).
As the competition was a medal round, a familiar face stepped forward to receive the medal for best gross score, namely Musbah, for his gross 70.
