Independent Ministry of Interior’s first day score of 51.3 claimed its four-man team the honours in last weekend’s 17th American Mission Hospital (AMH) Island Classic Charity Golf Tournament.

Safriya 1, who notched 53.8 points on day two, finished second, and Awal International Sports, who notched the top score on the third and final day of 53.8 points in the championship section, discovered that it was only good enough to finish third on the overall leaderboard.

In the Premiership section, Credimax 2 finished with 52.8 points to not only win the concluding day’s honours but also the overall title. DHL compiled 54.4 points to not only finish second on the concluding day but also claim the overall runners-up title while Credimax 1 finished on 55 points to finish third on the concluding day and also third in the overall list.

The GulfWeekly Independent foursome made up of Greg Pirkle, general manager of Four Seasons Bahrain Bay, Delano Roosevelt, Reza Investment’s director of new business development, business consultant David Axtell and editor Stan Szecowka, performed with spirit but never challenged the leaders.

AMH CEO Dr George Cheriyan said the event aimed to raise funds to buy necessary equipment and to help support its community outreach programme and he thanked His Majesty King Hamad for allowing the golf tournament to take place on his private golf course in Safriya.

“On behalf of the board members of American Mission Hospital, I would like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who contributed to make the golf tournament a resounding success,” he added.

Bahnaz Abbas, senior manager fundraising, marketing & community and organiser of the event, also thanked the golfers, volunteers, helpers and the golf course staff for maintaining ‘an exceptional course’ throughout the Royal Golf Club-staged tournament.
