Gulf Weekly Scarth and Park duo win Foursomes

Awali Golf Club held its pairs competition – the Johnnie Walker Foursomes – where players sign up to play together as a team rather than the random draw that Awali normally uses. The foursomes format has one ball being played alternately by each player, consequently, this enables players to test their diplomacy, as well as golf competence.

The pairing of Bill Scarth, the club’s vice-captain, and Nicky Park cruised to victory with a score of 44 Stableford points. The event, being played for the 41st time, was sponsored by BMMI. Prizes were presented on their behalf by Bill, assisted by tournament director Paul Beaumont.

Gerry McDermott and Alan Staunton finished second with 43 points, third place went to Tony and Beth Robinson with 39, fourth place to Blake Budge and Ali Danesh with 38, leaving Dave and Nicky Bailey losing out on countback in fifth.

The side-prizes for a specific golfing feat. The choice for this competition was ‘nearest the pin on the green in two’ for three of the Par-4 holes. Acknowledging that teams with a lady player were at a disadvantage, a bouquet of flowers was awarded to the highest-placed lady. Nicky Park thus had the pleasure of taking home a second prize.
