The Whisperer

THE other day, a friend of the Whisperer was stopped just off Exhibition Avenue late in the evening by a youngster who asked for 500fils claiming that he was on his way to tuitions but he was hungry as he had not eaten anything after lunch. After asking him where he stayed and a couple of other perfunctory questions the Whisperer’s friend parted with the money advising the boy to not repeat it as he appeared to be from a well-to-do family. Later on, our friend was wondering whether he should have followed the boy to check what he would do with the money or whether he should have taken him to the nearest cold store and bought him something rather than giving him the money. Anyway, what’s gone is gone, but our friend decided that he would be more careful in the future.
