I AM a huge fan of reality television and it has something to do with my fascination with social psychology and people watching. My most recent guilty obsession is ‘The House of DVF’ that is currently airing on OSN.
It is a docu-series where viewers are invited into the glamorous fashion world of Diane von Furstenberg. She is infamous for her iconic wrap dress that symbolised power and independence for an entire generation of women back in the 1970s.
The series unfolds with eight young women fighting for a place as the new DVF global brand ambassador. Diane has a fantastic slogan, ‘feel like a woman, wear a dress’ and has an effortless Italian grace which translates into her designs with her choice of luxurious fabric and she is notorious for her fun, confident and attractive prints.
I fell in love with a wrap worn by the fiery red-head Jessica Joffe (DVF style editor) in the last episode and I had to find something similar. Of course, I could order from DVF online but honestly ...
* I don’t have $400 to spend on a designer dress right now * The shipping charges may be just as much. * wanted to find something similar available here in Bahrain. It didn’t take long for the law of attraction to work its magic and I received an email from Promod showcasing its new ‘look books’.
They have a new dress called the ‘fluid-hang’ dress that has teeny flower prints of blue, red, white and black that work together so well and is priced at BD16.900. It is not exactly a wrap dress but this piece hangs effortlessly with a tie at the waist and reminded me of a DVF.
I am convinced that this new easy-to-wear feminine dress is going to be very popular for spring because it is so breezy and light. They have various prints and colours and also have the same flowy material in rompers and blouses that can be paired against black to pop the colour.
In my opinion these prints are begging to be paired with a mini-bag, ankle boots and the ‘fluid’ black trench coat for a casual chic look.
