Gulf Weekly Top five most anticipated films of 2015

THE year 2015 is shaping up to be a vintage one, jam-packed with huge movies that are likely to break almost every box office record going.

Therefore, I’ve cobbled together a list of the five movies I just cannot wait to see this year. It was incredibly difficult to narrow it down to so few, never mind put them in order from one to five (OK, that’s a little bit of a lie, number one was easy but two-to-five were tough!), but after much deliberation I finally got it down.

Bearing in mind I’ve had to leave off the likes of Furious 7, Mission: Impossible 5, Tomorrowland,  the new Terminator and Mad Max reboots, Pixar’s latest effort Inside Out and Quentin Tarantino’s return with The Hateful Eight, it’s safe to say the cinema will be a second home for many during the coming year.

5. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
Katniss Everdeen’s fight against the Capitol comes to a close in this final instalment of the hugely-popular Hunger Games series. While Part 1 was slightly disappointing, with all the grandiose action scenes, twists and pay-offs to come, Part 2 is sure to be the explosive and satisfying finale that fans of the series deserve.

4. Avengers: Age of Ultron
The iconic superhero team gets together for the second time in the sequel to one of the most popular films of recent times. The Avengers will face their toughest challenge to date, and the movie promises to be bigger, better and darker than its predecessor.

3. Jurassic World
The original Jurassic Park remains one of the most popular and influential sci-fi adventure films of all time, and after a mixed bag of sequels and over a decade of development hell, the fourth film hopes to rekindle the magic. With a trailer strongly emphasising a return to the series’ roots, hopes are high that the series will rediscover its mojo. Plus, who doesn’t love dinosaurs?

2. Spectre
The 24th James Bond film sees Daniel Craig’s Bond hunting down old foes SPECTRE and, if the rumours are true, iconic villain Blofeld is back in the fray too. Sure to feature guns, girls and cars galore, the return of Britain’s finest cinematic institution would usually be at the top of any year’s hype list. However, unfortunately for him, 2015 brings with it one behemoth that the whole of MI6 couldn’t take down …

1. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
You weren’t expecting anything-else were you? If there’s ever been a more anticipated film than this, I’d love to see it. The characters from the original trilogy are back in a sequel set 30 years after The Return of the Jedi. With self-proclaimed Star Wars fanatic JJ Abrams on board to direct fresh from his excellent reboot of Star Trek and a promise to return to practical effects over the CGI-heavy prequels, I get giddy every time I think about it … which is all the time. December 18 can’t come quickly enough.
