AS citizens of the 21st Century, we are an unstoppable force of awesome. We are empowered with knowledge, positively reeking of it, and the internet is our not-so-secret-weapon.

Never before in the history of humanity have we been able to Skype with friends 3,000 miles away, while reading the news, watching Game of Thrones and live-tweeting about it. What a time to be alive!

Even amongst the rose-tinged view of our intellectual prowess, we, as a collective society fail in the face of one obstacle. We remain oblivious to one of the most common challenges faced on the internet. Every time that we create an account, we must do one thing before proceeding. One thing, which we never research, yet always agree to. One thing, which we have lied about since the dawn of the internet.

‘I have read the terms of agreement’.

Lies. Complete lies.

We’ve never read that document. It is a thousand pages long! Why should we read a thesis when we want to open a new email account? It’s very possible that we could be signing our lives away.

Even in the 21st Century, the age of wisdom, we are defeated by insurmountable legalese. There could be a clause about succumbing to a zombie apocalypse, and I just agreed to it. Let’s hope for the best.
