The Captain’s Prize competition was held at Awali Golf Club on Friday with Abdul Elah Fakhroo, the club’s first Bahraini captain, sponsoring the event with an impressive array of prizes.

More than 90 players took advantage of his generosity, one or two of whom demonstrated fine golf as reflected by their Stableford scores, assisted perhaps by glorious golfing conditions.

Making it onto the winner’s podium for the first time at Awali, Mohammed Khalifa came home with 44 points to receive the overall winner’s prize together with a handicap cut to mellow his euphoria, three points clear of runner-up Abdulrahman Amin.

Captain Fakhroo emphasised the contribution made to the club by some unsung heroes, namely the tournament director and the club’s committee. He also hailed the contribution of clubhouse staff to whom he made a special presentation.

Derek Hutchinson then continued his education of members on the rules of golf and etiquette. One subject in focus was that of bunker rakes and he noted that, at Awali, a player should always return a rake to its stand after use.

Prizes were presented on behalf of the captain by Mel Fakhroo.

Results: 1st Mohammed Khalifa (44), 2nd Abdulrahman Amin (41), 3rd Jo Pawson (40), 4th Adnan Al Sowaidi (40), 5th Vidhu Mittal (40), 6th Essa Al Qutami (40), 7th Mohammed Khalifa Al Fudhala (40), 8th Rashid Al Qutami (40), 9th Ariette Paul (40), 10th Jeff Paa, Yong Back Kim and Ahmed Al Noaimi losing on countback.
