Dilmun Stables hosted its first event at the weekend, the first since its paddocks received a makeover, writes Helen Blake.

The surfaces have been treated to tonnes of sand, the main contributor and organiser was Jerri Taylor, although several of the other riders and livery owners made contributions.

Friday’s show was sponsored by Taylor with fantastic prizes, trophies and rosettes. The event was assisted by international trainer Ben Murphy, here until Sunday, who was on hand to offer advice.

Also held over the weekend was the Second Bahrain Local Arabian Show, organised by the Bahrain Horse Society at A’ali Arabian Stud in A’ali.

The competition was only for local studs, which had been trained by professionals from all over the world. Organiser Hesham Al Haddad said the aim was to gain European Conference of Arab Horse Organisations (ECAHO) recognition with the winners qualifying for international events.

An ECAHO representative was present at the event, with judges accredited to the body. There were 14 categories split into age groups and BBK was the main sponsor of the event.

The senior stallion champions were:
Gold Champion - Premium owned by Al Riyahi Stud
Silver Champions - AJA Alexander owned by Al Nibras Stud and AJ Bahee owned by A’Ali Stud.

As well as Murphy, Genevive Amy Joyce, a licensed osteopath, and saddle fitter Martina Boor are also here until Sunday.
